We just moved out of our 1st place together and its a pretty bittersweet topic for me. When Gabe first took me to look at this place while we were engaged I'm pretty sure my first words were "....you want me to live here?" I wasnt fond of the idea of living in an old building that was previously used to milk goats and cows. Wasn't thrilled. But, it was cheap and when you are poor newlyweds, cheap is the best word you can hear! So I agreed that this was going to be our home and we were on our way to cleaning and fixing it up. We repainted the rooms, bought decorations and not too long after we moved in it started to feel like home. We had been there for about 2 months when we got a letter from the university letting us know we had until May 2011 to find a new place to live because they were tearing down our home. I was so upset that we had just spent all that money fixing it up and as soon as we finish they inform us with this news. Plus, It was our home. I didnt want to move. We had just the right amount of space, we could have our pets there, and we were close to campus. We decided to wait until after Christmas to start looking. January rolled around and we started our search. We searched and searched and searched and all we found was too expensive, no pets, drug houses.... it was bad. We continued to look up until April when things were getting down to the wire. I was starting to panic and even though Gabe wont admit it, I'm pretty sure he was too. When we had less than a month to find somewhere to live we decided we would move back home to Clinton for the summer and live rent free :) My awesome in-laws are nice enough to let us bum in their basement apartment for the next 4 months! Before we started packing up all of our stuff I went a little crazy and took pictures of EVERYTHING! I wanted to be able to document our home when we got married so in the future we can look back and show our kids. Every newlywed couple has stories about their first place, right? Well here is ours:
 |
The windows on the top left is our home. |
 |
The killer stairs up to our door. |
 |
Our door is on the left. |

ha ha I love this shower. It was only a bath and we have Jed and Cami to thank for making it a functional shower! |
 |
Our spare room....dont mind the BRIGHT yellow walls. They werent supposed to be quite that bright :) |
 |
Our little kitchen.Notice how we have no handles on the cupboards? When we moved in I thought they were ugly and took them off to buy new ones and when we found out they were tearing it down I didnt want to waste the money to buy new ones. Well, then I couldnt ever find the old ones.... so we just didnt have any. ha ha |
My awesome mom came up to help us pack! Thank you Mom!
 |
Gracie was ready to get outta there! |
The gorgeous view out our front room and kitchen windows!

...and last but not least, The lab across the hall. I'm not gonna miss the smell of gross milk.
Thank you North Farm DHIA for all the memories! :) We loved our stay here and glad you got to experience all the things a young married couple gets to go through. We will always remember our first home together and are sad to be leaving... but hopefully the next place lives up to you!! |

thats so cute! ugh...i think about our little house on 300 N. in W point and it still makes me a little sad. it was old and smelt like a grandma, but i'm still in love with it, and probably always will be. Its just the memories you make there that are so special.
You are seriously so cute carlie. i miss hanging out with you. I'm glad to see how happy you and your hubs are.
Thank you Shanna! I miss you too, we had so much fun back in the day :) haha where are you guys living at now?
You're house was way cute & i love your decorating! That's sad it didn't last that long living there especially with all that hard work you two did. I remember hearing you talk to Alysia about it at Jess' homecoming. Best of luck finding a new place!
